Last week when “Alice in Wonderland” was released, James Cameron’s juggernaut was kicked off all but eight IMAX screens, That’s is one hell of a drop, especially when the film is still making some major box office each week. Fox’s plan to rectify thay is re-release. According to THR, Fox is seriously considering putting Avatar back in theaters during this summer, in order to earn the money that it lost due to the film being pulled last week.
The major draw for the re-release will be the extra footage. Cameron is going to cut into it before it hits screens again and rumor has it that there is at least 40 minutes of usable footage available, but likely we’ll only see about 10 of that. The max run time for an IMAX feature is 170 minutes, and with Avatar being 160 already.
I have seen the movie twice in IMAX and I know there are a lot of haters of the movie, but I would definitely shell out more bucks to see a re-cut version once more.
