James McTeigue and the Hughes Brothers both have been in talks to direct this prequel, but now it seems official a director has been found.
The director is Rupert Wyatt, who directed 2008′s crime thriller The Escapist. Unfortunately he has no big-budget or sci-fi experience at all, so this is definitely a risky task. There is no start date yet, as the script is still being ironed out. This seems to be the same approach that Sony took with the new Spider-Man reboot, by hiring Marc Webb. This could be for two reasons, one the studio is looking to be in control of the film and make the movie that they want or they are looking to make it cheap. Spider-Man 3 cost $258M dollars and the new reboot in the works will be made for only $80M with the young new director.
Could be a good move for “Apes” or it could be bad, more to come on this as it develops.
