Due to the enormous success that Walt Disney Studios scored with “Alice in Wonderland,” it is no shocker that the studio set a spring date for another 3-D film. The studio announced that the Robert Zemeckis’ produced film, “Mars Needs Moms!”, based on the childrens’ story by “Bloom County” creator Berkley Breathed, will open on March 11, 2011 in 3-D and (most likely) IMAX 3-D. The film will feature the voices of Seth Green, Joan Cusack and Dan Fogler. It will also be shot using motion capture and is being directed by Simon Wells (“The Prince of Egypt”). The film tells the story of a young boy, named Milo, who gains a deeper appreciation for his mom after Martians come to Earth to take her away.
Zemeckis’ is becoming a leader in motion capture 3-D film, after 2004’s “The Polar Express”, 2007’s “Beowulf” and 2009’s “A Christmas Carol”, though on “Mars” he will only be producing.
