Sony Pictures is bringing spinach loving sailor “Popeye” to the big screen with CGI animation and 3D and hopes to turn into into a successful franchise.
The last time “Popeye” was brought to the big screen was with the 1980′s Robert Altman directed live action film starring Robin Williams. Wasn’t a beloved adaption of the much loved character.
Only a little of the story has been revealed that Popeye’s love interest Olive Oyl, nemesis Bluto and adopted child Swee’Pea will be part of the adventure. Arad says the new version will cover the themes of friendship, love, greed and life, and focus on human strengths and human frailties.
