Robert De Niro is getting his leather jacket out of storage from the 1988 original and gearing up to make a sequel to “Midnight Run”. The original road movie saw De Niro as Jack Walsh on a job to track down embezzler Charles Grodin, but the whole case turns out to be more than Walsh had anticipated.
Timothy Dowling, the writer of “Role Models” and the upcoming “Knight and Day” starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, has been hired to write a script for Universal Pictures.
While the original “Midnight Run” wasn’t a big hit, grossing only $38 million in its run, but it did get great reviews and developed a cult following on video.
Not sure if I would want Martin Brest to return to direct “Midnight Run 2″, since his last action-comedy happened to be the massive commercial and critical disaster “Gigli”, but maybe enough time has past to forgive (but never forget).
