Sofia Vergara has joined the cast of “The Smurfs”. The “Modern Family” star will portray Odile, who is married to the live-action character played by Neil Patrick Harris and is a powerful executive at a high-end French cosmetics company. Directed by Raja Gosnell, the big screen adaptation is scheduled for an August 3, 2011 release. Filming will start in New York next week.
In related news, Vergara has also landed a voice role in George Miller’s Happy Feet 2, which Miller is filming in Sydney for a November 18, 2011 release. She joins Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Brad Pitt and Hank Azaria (also in “The Smurfs”) in the Warner Bros. sequel.
