Film Review: “Deadly Impact”

Starring: Sean Patrick Flanery and Joe Pantoliano
Directed: Robert Kurtzman

Our Score: 4 out of 5 stars

“Deadly Impact” is an action/thriller that keeps it pace the whole movie. Sean Patrick Flanery plays the Tom Armstrong who is tormented by a mastermind serial killer aka The Lion played by Joe Pantoliano. After being one of The Lion’s target,m Tom makes a decision that will change his life. After trying to leave it all behind, Tom is brought back when The Lion arises again with a new target and Tom is looking to finish the job.

The film shot on a relatively low budget looks fantastic. There are a few explosion scenes caused by The Lion havoc and director Kurtzman shoots them from a long shot and it really shows the scale and how massive it is. Sean Patrick Flanery known for “The Boondock Saints” series fits perfectly in the role of the washed up cop looking for revenge. Joe Pantoliano plays a really great mastermind crazy. There isn’t a lot of back story as to why The Lion is who he is and why he is doing this but I think that add to the menacing features that he embraces. When I watched the film I couldn’t stop thinking about how much he relates to Dennis Hopper in “Speed”. He is twisted and also in a way very funny. The script was well done and seems to really give the story and the characters the development that required them to really pop out in the film.

Robert Kurtzman started his work in K.N.B Effects and started directing in the mid-90′s mostly horror movies though, “Wishmaster”. His turn to action/thriller is most welcomed and awaited. He brings a unique approach to the action genre and really takes the film in the right direction. His long shots like a mentioned earlier are well down to show ratio well. The film is also really well paced and flows well with the story. Keep an eye for Kurtzman himself, as he cameos later in the film.

“Deadly Impact” debuted on DVD, April 20th, 2010 and it deserves as much attention as it can get. It is a fun thrill ride with a lot of surprises and grabs you until the end. Check it out!
