The burning question I have to ask, “Why isn’t Edgar Wright directing every movie released!!”. I mean come on after “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz” should this guy be ruling the movie industry. “Shaun” proved that he can do horror and comedy. “Hot Fuzz” proved he is about to do action and comedy. “Scott Piligrim” takes filmmaking to a whole new level. I can honestly say that this film is NOTHING like I have ever seen before. What is great about this film is that you do not need to be a fan of the graphic novel, comics or even video games to enjoy this movie (although it will make it 10x better if you do).

The story is simple Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) is just a guy in a band that was dumped and is trying to get over his ex-girlfriend. That is until he meets Ramona (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and it changes his whole world. In order for Scott to be with Ramona though, he will have to fight her seven evil ex’s. Sounds crazy? Well it is! The first thing you ask yourself before seeing this movie is how are they going to do this and not make it stupid. Edgar Wright pulls this task off perfectly. The fight sequences in the film are just out of control. In the middle of a scene it would just break out into a “Mortal Kombat”-esque fight to the death. The visuals in the film are so well planned out and the choreography is very impressive for a video game/comic movie. The movie itself is just really fun. Plain and simple fun.

Michael Cera plays Michael Cera but is Michael Cera using a power star from “Super Mario Bros”. Whew…If you are a video game player then you will get this reference. This film is most definitely his best role yet. Cera is a total badass in the film and to see him fighting shows a whole new character for him. Fans of Cera who just love Cera, will get there fix as well don’t worry. Kieran Culkin is a scene stealer as Scott’s gay roommate. He has great lines and is extremely very funny. Some of the evil ex’s consist of the well known Chris Evans aka the new “Captain America”, Brandon Routh aka “Superman” and Jason Schwartzman aka hmmm…well one badass villain.

The music in Edgar Wright films have yet to disappoint. He is always picking the best for his films. In this film there is actually a lot of original music and it is fantastic! So if you are looking for a really creative and new film, then get your ass to the theater and see this film!! Easily one of the best films of the summer no question!! Cannot wait to see what Edgar Wright tackles next. Rumor on the street is he has been working on getting the superhero “Ant-Man” to the big screen. Would love to see “Scott Pilgrim” become a franchise!
