“JAWS Memories From Martha’s Vineyard” Books – No need to have the Navy loan you anything for blowing up sharks yet

THANK YOU FOR ENTERING, THE CONTEST HAS ENDED. WINNERS HAVE BEEN CHOSEN AND NOTIFIED VIA EMAIL. PLEASE CHECK BACK EVERY WEEK FOR NEW GIVEAWAYS!

What goes together better then the 4th of July and “JAWS?” That’s right, nothing. Before anyone gets crazy and the Navy loans them something capable of blowing up a shark, relax because we’re just talking about a (still quite epic) coffee table book. Last year Media Mikes gave away autographed copies of Carl Gottlieb’s “The ‘Jaws’ Log,” a book that documented the making of the Steven Spielberg classic through the eyes of Hollywood. Well, believe it or not, we’re going one better’ this year. In honor of our nations 235th Birthday (and number 36 for “JAWS”), instead of giving away an American flag, the Mikes are giving you a chance to win a copy of the brand new coffee table sized book “JAWS: Memories From Martha’s Vineyard.” This almost 300 page epic tells the story of “JAWS” in the words of the local Vineyard residents who worked on the film. We are giving away (1) copy of the SPECIAL EDITION, which comes with a behind the scenes DVD and an actual piece of the ORCA II, the version of the ORCA that was made to sink. There will also be (2) winners of the soft back version.

You’re probably saying “Hey, Mikes, other sites are also giving away this book. Why is your giveaway so special?” One word: Autographed. MovieMikes was proud to be the FIRST outlet in the world to read and review this special book (take THAT “Time” magazine) and both Mikes are proud to have been able to contribute to it. Read the review here. So, since we are obviously THE movie site for everything “JAWS” related, Media Mikes is going back to Amity over the 4th of July weekend to have these books autographed by not only the authors but anyone else he can track down who worked on the film. Check back during the contest for a complete list of signatures.

**THIS JUST IN: 7-3-11**
It was a wild and crazy night in Amity this weekend at the release party for the new book “Jaws: Memories from Martha’s Vineyard.” And, as promised, MovieMikes was there. The books we’re giving away have been signed by several members of the collective “JAWS” family, including:

Author Matt Taylor, Book Conceptionist Jim Beller and Joe Alves, Lee Fiero, Jonathan Filley, Tommy Mello, Rick Mello, Edith Blake, Carol Fligor, Jonathan Searles and more. Just the Jonathan Filley autograph makes this book even more of a collectable as his signature is one of the rarest in the “JAWS” world. Good luck!

Since we’re in the holiday mood, to enter the giveaway just tell us this: What film do you most associate with a special holiday? Is it always a “Die Hard” Christmas at your house? Does “E.T.” remind you of trick or treating? Do you expect your house to overturn on New Years Eve because of “The Poseidon Adventure?” Let us know and good luck! This giveaway will be open until Tuesday July 19th at Noon, Eastern Time. Only one entry per person, per household; all other entries will be considered invalid. Once the giveaway ends, Movie Mikes will randomly pick out winners and alert the winners via email.

Please forgive spelling errors. I was typing so fast as the wave of great memories hit, I didn’t want to stop!

  2. For me and my wife it is definitely “Planes, Trains, & Automobiles” on Thanksgiving. Probably the only holiday movie we can agree on. lol

On a side note, for myself personally it’s a marathon of every “Friday the 13th” film on every Friday the 13th. Been doing it since I was a kid and am not one to break tradition.

  3. Brian de Castro says:

Even though the movie Jaws takes place around the 4th of July, I actually associate the film w/ Memorial Day, as that is unofficialy the start of the summer season. And watching Jaws makes me think of summer and seafood and beaches and bikinis. I want to drive right down the Garden State Parkway to the Jersey Shore to experience all that a sore town like Amity has to offer, excepting, of course, the gaping shark wounds (though I can safely see sharks at Jenkinson’s Aquarium.) I even like Jaws 2, because it also stars the great Roy Scheider (who grew up & went to school right down the road from where I live) as our beloved Chief Brody. So that’s the holiday & movie I associate w/ each other. For me, Jaws = Memorial Day & Summer.

  4. I love Halloween it reminds me of Halloween f course

  5. Simon Grosvenor says:

Definitely John Carpenter’s Halloween on Halloween

  6. Marlene V. says:

What film do you most associate with a special holiday?
Sound of Music reminds me of Christmas time. We always watch it during the holiday season as a family.

  7. I am definitely a fan of watching Die Hard at Christmas time. I got my girlfriend to watch Die Hard for the first time by telling her I knew this great Christmas movie we could watch together. Also, I am getting married next December and we will be leaving the church as the Ode to Joy (the song played when Hans and co. open the Nakatomi vault) plays. For fourth of July its a toss up between Jaws, Independence Day or The Patriot.

  8. I always watch The Nightmare Before Christmas on Halloween AND on Christmas Eve. And for my husband, it’s not Christmas until we’ve watched National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

  9. Susan D says:

While I cannot say that it is a special holiday, it is hard not to associate GROUNDHOG DAY with Groundhog Day for obvious reasons

  10. Being a 40 year Cape Coddah, JAWS in the summer time in general is always great, Christmas Vacation, and I always love watching The Empire Strikes Back when there is snow on the ground.

  11. Mike Schneider says:

The Alien Movies + Christmas… chestbursters are the true virgin birth.

  12. Mildred says:

When I think of Thanksgiving, I think of the Macy’s T-giving parade in NYC and one film that highlighted that parade, MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET, in black & white

  13. wendy wallach says:

The Ten Commandments with Passover of course!

  14. Ken Schultz says:

The film “Jaws” reminds me most of the 4th of July because in the movie I remember the saying “It’s the 4th of July and the beaches will be open”

  15. Ron Miller says:

    A Christmas story during Christmas

  16. what else? Chevy Chase and his antics in Christams Vacation. a fine way to get psyched, or intimidated, whichever way you look at it, for the holiday season. nothing like the classic line from Randy Quaid’s character, that his son has done well in joining the circus.
