In fighting this powerful demonic being, the Warrens find themselves in the middle of the most terrifying case of their lives!

The Conjuring 5 Things to know… INTERACTIVE GIFS!

1) The Conjuring is directed by the acclaimed James Wan, the Australian-born director of the fright-fests Insidious and the Saw series. His Twitter handle is @CreepyPuppet. Say no more.

2) The Conjuring has been given an “R” rating by the MPAA. Not because of blood, gore, or violence, but simply because it’s just so scary from start to finish!

3) The Conjuring’s cast and crew experienced creepy events during filming. Scratches appeared out of nowhere on Vera Farmiga’s computer soon after she agreed to act in the movie, the crew were routinely woken by something in the “witching hour” between 3 and 4AM, and the real-life Carolyn Perron fell and broke her hip while visiting the set.

4) The Rhode Island farmhouse where The Conjuring is set once belonged to an accused witch, Bathsheba, who tried to sacrifice her children to the devil and killed herself in 1863.

5) Hold your applause! The Conjuring will make you terrified to clap! Whether it’s playing a traditional game of hide-and-seek by following the clapping sounds like the mother and daughter in the movie, or being terrorized by ghostly claps in different rooms of the haunted farmhouse, these claps throughout the movie will give you the creeps!

Film Review “The Conjuring”

Starring: Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga and Lili Taylor
Directed by: James Wan
Rated: R
Running time: 1 hr 52 mins
Warner Brothers

Our Score: 4 out of 5 stars

I don’t know what happened to horror films. Somewhere between “The Exorcist” and the “Saw” series the genre’ seemed to think that substituting buckets of blood for suspense was a good trade. But suspense is what makes a film great. You didn’t see the shark in “Jaws” for almost 40 minutes but you’re heart beat like crazy every time you heard John William’s music. “Paranormal Activity” kept you glued to the screen without so much as a drop of blood. Now comes “The Conjuring,” a film sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Based on real events, the film tells the story of two families. One is the Perron family. Dad Roger (Ron Livingston), mom Carolyn (Taylor) and their five daughters. They’ve just moved into an old “fixer-upper” of a house in Rhode Island. The other family is the Warrens, Ed (Wilson) and Lorraine (Farmiga). The Warrens are paranormal investigators. They go where needed and answer when called. When things begin happening at the Perron home the couple is contacted and asked to investigate. What they find will challenge the faiths of both families.

I must give credit to director Wan. As the creator of the “Saw” series he could have rode that blood-soaked horse for years until it was dead. Instead he has crafted a film that relies solely on its actors to convey the horrors portrayed. The cast puts their all into the film, turning what could have been a cliché’d filled blood-fest into a modern horror gem. Tops among the actors are Farmiga and Taylor. Both are mothers and both do their best to keep their children safe. The Warrens have a habit of keeping a souvenir from each of their investigations which makes having a curious daughter sometimes exasperating. Both women also endure a barrage of physical abuse as the spirits that they are fighting do all they can to win the battle. The chills are genuine and I dare you not to jump.

The Warren’s would eventually go on to fame as the investigators of what is now known as the Amityville Horror. But this case surely had to prepare them for what they later found.

CD Review “The Conjuring: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack”

Our Score: 4.5 out of 5 stars

I am a huge horror movie buff. It is hands down my favorite genre. When it comes to the music in the horror movies, it really needs to scare the shit out of me in order to be effective. And I have to admit that is not always the case. I was introduced to the work of Joseph Bishara back in 2010 for the score of “Insidious” (also directed by James Wan) and he has quickly become one of my favorite composers. In fact, “Insidious” has one of my all-time favorite horror scores and this one is also not to far behind either. I have to admit, I have yet to see “The Conjuring”, obviously I am highly anticipating it…and now I only want to see it more, thanks to this score. This score is terrifying and guaranteed to make you jump! A must for any horror fan!

What I like most about composer Joseph Bishara is that he really has a knack for creating these solid score which have a very realistic feel yet still extremely far out and creepy at the same time. Some of my favorite tracks are “Witch Perch”, “Maurice” and “Hanging Drop”. They are crazy creepy and definitely will have you turning the lights on at night. The last track on the album is from fellow composer Mark Islam, called “Family Theme”, it is good but to me really doesn’t fit with the scope of the score and feels out of place.  Nonetheless, if you are looking for a great horror score, and I highly recommend listening with a headset, this will send shivers down your spine and have you running out to the theaters to see this film!
